The Tennessee State Soccer Association is a leader in providing coaching education and recognizes that continual life-long learning opportunities are the basis for the growth of the game and player development in our state.
We partner as an affiliate of the US Youth Soccer Association (USYSA) under US Soccer to offer courses with a variety of organizations. This includes a partnership with United Soccer Coaches (formally the NSCAA), a non-profit association of soccer coaches at every level of the game that conducts educational offerings through a coaching academy program. These courses are called “diploma programs” and are intended to be information oriented.
However, since US Soccer is the national governing body, they are the only organization recognized by soccer’s world governing body, FIFA, to be able to issue a soccer coaching “license.” The TN Soccer coaching education department provides US Soccer courses locally.
“I am currently in the process of taking the D coaching license course in Brentwood. I just wanted to say that I appreciate that Tennessee Soccer provides training like this. This course has been extremely helpful for me to develop as a coach. My training sessions are much improved. I do less “coaching” during games. And because I had more conversations with the parents early, my team has a healthy, positive culture…Basically, I appreciate that you all provide these courses to help coaches like me improve. Last summer I took the 11v11 and 7v7. I learned so much that I wanted to take the D license.” — Kurt Thompson, Rampage Soccer Club
